Study is boring - so much so im bloging again

So this is goodbye, even as I write this my mind is thinking its last thoughts, shutting down its programs, turning off the lights and preparing to leave forever. I am using the last of my dwindling capabilities to farewell you, my dear friends, with whom some of my happiest brain functioning occurred.
As much as I would love to hold on, my battered brain just can not take it anymore, its tattered remains whimper with every thought, sparks cracking across once strong and proud neural tracks.
And what, you ask, could cause such destruction? My brain dear friends, has be ravaged by the most server infliction known to man, worse than picks disease, sematic dementia, Alzheimer disease or the unstoppable progression of prions. The twin forces of exams and study are what have forced my brain to its untimely evacuation; the stresses enforced by these two beasts have torn at my every neural connection, causing dendrites to curl upon themselves like water starved leaves, turning shrivelled and brown and neurotransmitters spill into the gaps draining slowly down and pooling around my tormented hippocampus as it struggles to retain what it must.

A Random Rant

so i was watching House last night repeat, sadly, (- why do they only show a new episode every few weeks - v v annoying ) anyway its the one where Chases dad comes to visit - you know cause he is dying or whatever and that Kid gets leprosy. well it made me laugh and not just at the kid (because lets face it ancient diseases are just funny - i personally plan to die of the plague or perhaps be overcome by consumption)

What was really fun though is how the father asks "when are you planning to be in OZ next?"*
and Chase replies "I’ll be home next Autumn"* Lets put aside the fact that Australian actors playing Australians in American shows fell they have to change their accents to fit what Americans believe our accent sounds like and all the humor that exists here. im even willing to look over the awkward insertion of Autumn instead of "fall" and the uncomfortable pronunciation that ensued.

My problem is with the use of the word Oz!!! no right minded Australian uses this word in seriousness it should only be uttered with extreme irony, sarcasm or when mocking someone!!! You can just see the writers in America sitting around the desk late at night, eating , what is it... egg rolls, what are they by the way - Americans are always eating them in movies - is it like spring roll?? they sound revolting! egg. rolls.! ewwww, so anyway they are eating them out of those white Chinese food containers with fumbling with chopsticks in order to appear pretentious enough.

There sitting there thinking, we have to making it bleedingly obvious that this guy is Australian , the stilted accent and occasional mocking don't do justice to our gimmick, and so the pick the most cliqued word they could find slam it awkwardly in and hey presto - instant Australian!!

I sound overly annoyed – im not – I thought it was funny and I need a rant

*quotations may bear little resemblance to actual words said; the general gist is right

Back

So im back at uni today, the first day back and already ive turned to my blog as a source of on-campus entertainment - not a good start to the semester.

The train ride in today seemed longer than ever, and the walk from the station dragged on. i ran into a girl i knew from school coming off the train, we were never friends, but today we were forced to make conversation. Neither of us had anything to say but to say nothing would be to painful so we compared holidays, timetables, relationships we had maintained with people we new from school then both made quick excuses to part when we touched on campus. I hate it when that happens.

Its raining here, its nice rain - straight down, no wind so an umbrella keeps u dry, i like that, u create ur own safe dry world to push through the wet. but the bottoms of my jeans are wet from puddles (i stopped avoiding them after a while) i can feel them against my ankles, so now i am continuously aware of my ankles, its strange mostly we don’t really know what our body is doing - it just slips into a comfortable position and waits in silence until its needed again. Its like when u hurt ur figure and suddenly ur aware how much u use ur hands, that sort of thing.

This semester im taking 2 psychology subjects, one physics and one chemistry , ( i dont supposes anyone cares but ill tell u anyway) at least i hope so - there’s a problem... - which means i have to deal with admin, i hate admin, ive a phobia of admin, there’s so much potential for things to go wrong , its silly but i get so nervous.

Its been raining on and off for weeks, which is good because before that it hadnt rained for months, as a result i havnt played soccer in weeks - the grounds keep getting closed - i miss it. its my one chance to behave in a manner not elsewhere accepted by society, i get to push and shove, i dont where make up, i come off smelly and dirty and i work all my frustration out in belting that ball up the field - its fantastic.

I am here

OK that is my uni , well a picture of one of its building anyway , its a really pretty uni - im not sure why im writing this , i have about 20 minutes to kill before i meet up with a friend, im sitting in a computer room on campus "doing assignments" and i thought a much better use of my time would be to update my blog. being a uni computer the opening page has tons of pics and i thought, in a moment of sheer artistic billiance, ill put some of those pics on my blog and people can imagine me sitting on campus typing away at a computer only - im not really in that building, its just the prettiest, well most famous of the pretty sandstone ones and the only really pretty one i could find a pic.

I'm where the pink arrow is pointing , its not a very exciting building , but in 10 minutes im going to walk out of there, and follow the green arrow down the stairs to manning ( dont have a pic of manning) and meet my friend, where we plan to discuss a whole range of intellectual and stimulating topics (centered around what happened over the week end).

One more picture for good measure , this is the inside of that first building , for as long as the uni's been around ( which is not long compared to some overseas but its the oldest in Australia - i think like 100 - 150 years) that tree has been a meeting ground for free thought and ideas and such university related stuff, we arnt allowed to sit under it anymore - they were worried about students killing the grass. (or so they claim.....)

anyway must go - adding pictures takes up time and i must go follow that arrow

Late

So its really late, here in the land of the Aussie’s, ok so not really really late, but late for a week night in the suburbs, if I didn’t have a week off from waking at unimaginable hours in the morning to traipse into uni each and every day ( I really love it , but how good is Easter break??) id be tucked into bed right now.

As it is I’ve taken to being online late at night, you can check the blogs that have been updated from other parts of the world, without catching them a day late when everyone else has allready made all the witty comments, plus the rest of the house is silent, which means I can hear the keys of my key bored tapping which I like; I especially like the way the space bar makes a different sound than the rest (I’m not strange (well not very)and I’m not trying to be poetic or anything, I swear I just like it).

I just typed the deleted a whole bunch of rambling philosophical introspective dribble, isn’t it funny how when your tired you think your onto something really deep and then you reread and its total nonsense? anyway I’m going to stop now before I start to believe I’m a literary genius and bore you all with my deep insights into 'life, the universe and everything'.

The list

Ok , so the list, finally, in no particular order my list of
Really Good Books
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, this is just soooooo funny , its by Douglas Adams, who was totally brilliant, also wrote the Dirk Gently series, about an existential detective who uses the ideas of physics and relativity to solve his case, well kind of any way. Anyway Adams was intelligent and hilarious and hitchhikers is his best work.
Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austin, any girl knows this romantic and intelligent novel is one of the best love stories ever written.
Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchel
The 'Tomorrow' Series, I don't think John Marsden's books are popular out of Australia, they should, the tomorrow series is the best but is very very long, Checkers , So Much to Tell You and anything else by him while aimed at teenagers ( and well aimed to, Marsden is the best writer for teenagers ive ever read , gets the language perfect, without it ever becoming out dated) can draw anyone in.
A Cage of Butterflies- Brian Caswell
Watermelon - Marian Keyes , not the same literary level as some others but still a damn funny read
The No. Ladies Detective Agency - Alexander Macall Smith

The Notebook - Nicholas Sparks , sappy but i like it , and others that he writes, his books always seem to be being made into movies

Bridget Jones's Diary- Helen Fielding

Mrs Dalloway - Virginia Woolf, took some concentration but i enjoyed it

The Importance of Being Earnest - Oscar Wilde, ok so technically its a play , but I've only ever read it , never seen it live so i think it counts

Catch-22- Joseph Heller

1984 - George Orwell, but i didnt like the ending

Chocolat- Joanna Harris

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead-Tom Stoppard, also a play, but i had to read it in high school and loved it

High Fidelity - Nick Hornby

The B.F.G- Roald Dahl, i loved Roald Dahl growing up , still do

Power of One- Bryce Courtenay - another Aussie writer - most of his books are depressing but i like this one.

Life of Pi- Yann Martel

Digital Fortress- Dan Brown , ok so i know its lame to like Dan Brown but i totally enjoyed this book

Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte, the only Bronte i can stand

ok so , that, for no particular reason was a list of some of the books i enjoyed

My list (but not really)

I have a chemistry assignment to do; it won't be hard or time consuming or interesting. My problem is this; my sock draw is tidy, my CD’s are already in alphabetical order, I put all my books in perfect height order during the great avoid the physics text book episode of two days ago and my bed didn’t take nearly as long to make as anticipated. So you see I’m faced with actually doing this assignment in the very near future.
In fact I had turned on the computer with this shameful undertaking in mind, when my wonderful fantastic blog came to my rescue yet again. And so in the time honored spirit of procrastination I give you;
Kel’s List of Really Good Books
If u have met me, even for the briefest second u are probably aware I’m rather fond of books, in fact u probably have several of mine in your possession (“you have to read this, I reckon you’ll love it”). If you haven’t met me you’ll have to take my word for it (or don’t, I don’t care).
Anyway, my judgment of books doesn’t always fit with your traditional English teachers opinion. I tend to judge on its ability to keep me interested, make me laugh (or cry) out loud on the train, my ability to understand it and most importantly that rare quality a truly wonderful book has that makes u simultaneously want to get to the end to find out what happens and dread reaching the end because then the book will be over and you can’t escape into it's world again.
As opposed to the English teachers criteria; the books ability to make me tear my hair out with boredom and plot my own death just to escape the dull dribble they consider literary genius (still its very likely I am wrong and they are right).
Just looked at clock, as is the rule of procrastination, the time leading up to the hour when it is absolutely necessary for you to begin work (you know; I mean, really this time, its already going to be late and sub par, the hour to get it in on time and correct past ages ago, but if you don’t do it now you’ll fail altogether) travels much faster and then slows down to compensate while you labor through the boring ins and outs of some tedious concept or another. Anyway I must start work and so my list will have to wait until I can do it justice, I have a few more physics chapters to read tomorrow so I will probably do it then.

Me? Procratinating? I Would Never!!

Ok, so I was sitting down at my computer all set to do some physics homework, feeling very studious. And next thing I know, my hands without any consultation with my brain have opened up my blog. And I thought; Hey they might be on to something, I mean how important is uni anyway, I mean really?????

So hear I am, although now I have nothing to write …….hmmmmmmm

I like this picture, it hurts your brain , much like physics homework does but its much nicer to look at.

Pictures always make things better, they give the illusion you had a plan for your post, like your making a point. I don’t and I’m not, but people at first glance will think I do.

Pictures also make blogs look exciting. They say you should never judge a book by its cover (Or a blog by its layout), but their wrong (and I'm right). A cover is designed to be judged – that’s its purpose and it contains all the necessary information to tell whether you’ll like it or not.

Like, for example, I am reading catch-22 at the moment (v good by the way, so funny), its cover is clean and simple , the name and author written small with just a unobtrusive picture of a war plane this tells me; one that its about war and two that it’s a famous book that can draw a reader simply by its name and doesn’t need to convince them with a flashy cover.

You cant always tell though, like the time I tried reading Anna Karenina - total mistake; the cover was so promising but the book was so boring, I mean seriously who cares about farming??? I really don’t get what all the fuss is with Tolstoy; I mean really – does he really need all those words I’m sure I could tell it in half the time.

Any way I’ve had my rant for today – I had 2 actually and I’m feeling much better, might just go and read some before I start physics though, purely just to ready my mind you see, its got nothing to do with procrastination, I’ve NEVER done that in my life!

Ha - a comment

To all my loyal readers, of whom in sure there are thousands
(im sure you check everyday just to see if i have taken the time to enlighten ur day by posting a few lines - only to have your hearts broken each and every time, well im sorry i live a very busy and important life (also i can never think of anything to say)).

Anyway, i would like u to all look at the previous posts, and if u look carefully, down near the bottom you'll see something very rare for this blog- that’s right a comment and if u take the time to open it u’ll see that its not spam!!!

Forgive me for being over excited, most other bloggers don’t dedicate entire posts to a comment, i know, but they haven’t had the misfortunes ive had, they weren’t there when i screamed and i begged and i pleaded and still the computer was silent, (damned evil computer, why does it hate me so???) and they weren’t there when that horrible sickening feeling hit - id have to move my blog and leave my beloved comments behind. Sad times my dear readers sad, sad times.

Anyway my point is that it can be done, u have seen it happen my friends, now u do it too!!!

Oh and i am an Aussie, born and raised, as Aussie as a Barbie on a scorcher,
and i don’t think ive ever called it a university in my life, didn’t realise it was an Aussie thing. Although after typing it just that once i am sick of it and don’t think ill do it again.

Hia

Well.. long time no post , i kinda forgot about this , aslo i got depressed that the only msgs i got were spam, but ive start reading other ppls blogs lately (ive found myself with lots of spare time of late) and i dunno i was kinda inspired to start again.
I start my second year of uni on monday and thought this would be a welcome distraction; something to spend hours doing when i really should be studying.
so watch this space for more posts of an exciting, profound (or more truthfully self-absorbed and poorly spelled) nature.

Hia all

Ok so if ur reading this u've found my new blog - and if u've seen my old one u will realise that its exactly the same
- for some reason - known only to the evil man that runs the internet ( i imagine him as a fat geek with like 20 arms sitting inside a sphere of computers, one hand holding a ham sandwhich, the the rest typing frantically on key boards) i cant edit my other one anymore.

so will update on this one now and as an added bonus my address is now spelt correctly. So any way plz come and visit again and posts lots and lots of comments -cause thats the only thing i couldnt transfer and i love comments

Useless Facts

i got this in an email - and im a big fan of usless info so thought id share it with u all;
If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
i personally dont recommend u try this - because how in the world do u no that in 8yrs 7 months and 6 days ull still want a cup of coffee???
If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.
ew- but at least u get more thn a cup of coffe for ur troubles
The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.
Yeah - i dont suggest testing this one either
A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes.
ok if reincarnation exists i so bags being a pig next time
A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death.
EW EW EW- but i have to ask - wat sort of quality of life is there - i mean im sure the other cochroachs would be mean to a headless one - not let him join in any cochroach games
Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.
but how many brain cells?? Maybe try this when studying?? and does this include metaphorical banging??
The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.
ok if this was the case for human i dont think the guys would be quite as egar to do it - but can a male praying mantis live without his head like the cochroach ? - maybe we need to interbreed them
ok - more later

Star Trek

Now i realise im going to cop a lot for this -( but i don’t want to hear anything from anyone who has never watched a full epp) - I love star trek.
Reasons its great:
  • Decent long running romantic story lines
  • It presents rather relevant social comments and questions - through their relations with other alien nations
  • There’s good fun drama in every epp - that always ends happily
  • There’s aliens - often funny looking

i mean wats to not to like ?

Film in Review - Bride and Prejudice

Ok i thought seen as i view a lot of movies - i would let u all no wat i thought about them - so u can totally ignore my advice and go see them anyway.

Ok so the other day i went to see Bride and Prejudice, which was an appropriation of Pride and Prejudice - one of the greatest stories ever written - this is not the first time this story has been used in a new context - Bridget Jones Diary of course is Jane Austin’s master piece set in modern time.

This movie, however, does something new -it sets the classic story in India. And i for one think it does quite well. The guy who plays Darcy is nothing compared to either of Colin Firths portrayals of the literary Hunk- but he carries the part off well. The Guy in the handsome/evil Mr Wickem's part is much hotter than Hugh Grant or that guy from the BBC version. The beauty an elegance of Jane Austin’s original words make way for modern language but lame dance scenes and songs totally make this movie better.

So anyway - this movie is not quite as good as the original P&P or BJD ( the absence of Colin Firth ensures this fact) but it is heaps of fun - and id say really good

Homage To Oscar Wilde

I love Oscar Wilde - i think he was a very clever man, so funny - and really rather brave to stand up to all his opposition and write his master pieces .I particularly love The Importance of Being Earnest - the funniest play ever written but he also wrote some very witty quotes - and im going to post them here for u all to enjoy - let me know wat u think;

"Wickedness is a myth invented by good people to account for the curious attractiveness of others"
"Nothing that acctually occurs is of the slightest importance"
"Pleasure is the only thing one should live for. Nothing ages like happiness"
"To love oneself is the beginning of a life long romance."

see i think hes funny

Dirty Dancing

Yay me, i was lucky enough to get to see this on Wednesday - me and mum went - and it was fantastic- im a big fane of any stage show - particularly ones with music and dance- im also (as anyone who has ever talked to me for more than a minute can testify) obsessed with anything romantic, and i was rather fond of the movie - so i anticipated i would have a great time.

AND I DID!!!!! IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!! - it was all there; the lines, the characters, the music, the dancing. The sets didn’t always work and they add some stuff to fill it out but everything else was great - the casting was perfect - they all looked they who they should - and the guy who played Johnny totally looked like Patrick Swazye but a better dance - he was soo sexy when he danced - and then he took his shirt off - %^&*(%^$%*&&%^&^!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY OH MY.

They played all the old songs from the movie and i was bopping in my seat - i so want to learn to dance like thatAnd all the big lines - like when he says "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" - the crowd went wild - it was fantasticAnd all so romantic :) :) :) P.S - notice i wrote in pink - in honnor of Dirty Dancings title colour
